Electricity

Most electricity in Metamor City is generated by small nuclear reactors housed in the foundations of the major towers. Generally the power plant is leased from the manufacturer by the tower's owner, who then passes on the electricity costs to the building's occupants based on their usage. Many of the larger towers house larger reactors, which are held in a joint lease with the owners of the smaller towers around them. These adjacent buildings receive power from the primary building through thick underground conduits.

This distributed model of electricity generation means that the city's power supply is highly resistant to disruption. If one reactor has to disconnect for some reason, adjacent towers can redirect electricity to that part of the grid in order to cover for it. Metamor City's energy consumption is fairly enormous, but there is enough surplus being generated at most times that there is little danger of brownouts.

Most nuclear plants used in Metamor are thorium salt reactors of a design developed by Majestic Industries. The fuel used by these reactors cannot be turned into a nuclear weapon, which makes them highly attractive for Imperial security.

Heating and Cooling

Metamor City uses district heating and cooling powered by steam from the nuclear reactors. This "trigeneration" setup raises the overall energy efficiency of the system to roughly 85%.
