Primary Attributes

Primary attributes define a character's fundamental abilities. They are difficult to improve beyond their starting values, and a large portion of starting character points are likely to be spent on them.

Attribute Groups

Primary attributes are divided into three Groups: Body, Mind, and Spirit.

Body attributes determine the character's physical abilities: their strength, endurance, agility, dexterity, speed, and toughness. A soldier, an athlete, a martial artist, and a gymnast will all have high scores in at least some Body attributes.

Mind attributes determine the character's mental abilities: their force of personality, how quickly they can learn and apply new ideas, how they make connections between ideas, how well they remember details, how well they think critically, and how well they resist being duped or manipulated by others. A doctor, a lawyer, a politician, and a scientist will all have high scores in at least some Mind attributes.

Spirit attributes determine the character's spiritual abilities: their power reserves for magic or psi, their sensitivity to supernatural phenomena, their empathy for others, the reliability of their intuition, and their resilience against possession and other forms of supernatural attack. A shaman, a priest, a wizard, and a telepath will all have high scores in at least some Spirit attributes.

Score Range

Attributes follow a left-skewed distribution:

Score Meaning
0 Null
1 Invalid
2 Weak
3 Human Average
4 Good
5 Very Good
6 Impressive
7 Great
8 Outstanding
9 Amazing
10 Legendary

Scores above 10 are superhuman and are only possible through some unusual means, such as magic or psi. Non-humans are not subject to the same limitations as human characters, though they may have limits of their own.1

Power, Finesse, & Resistance

Each Attribute Group has three attributes within it.

The power attribute defines how strong, intense, or overpowering the character can be. It is the "brute force offense" stat.
The finesse attribute defines how flexible, subtle, careful, and precise the character can be. It is the "sensitivity/adaptability" stat.
The resistance attribute defines how tough, resilient, enduring, focused, centered, determined, or just plain stubborn the character can be. It is the "defense" stat.

To apply a physics analogy: Power is how much force you can apply, finesse is how precisely you can apply it, and resistance is how well you can withstand the force used by others.

Attribute Group Power Finesse Resistance
BODY Strength Reflexes Health
MIND Presence Intellect Will
SPIRIT Essence Acuity Faith
