The Realms Beyond

A general term for whatever awaits the soul when it passes into the afterlife. The Nine Hells are part of this, but only a part; what lies beyond them, no one knows for sure, but the gods sometimes call it Oblivion.

There have been many hints that there is some sort of intelligence present in the Realms Beyond, which can communicate with mortal souls (both the deceased and the living).

• The ghost of Asariel Starson made a pact with someone within the Realms Beyond to arrange an intervention for his son Janus.
• In Whispers in the Wood, the spirit of Rosanna Venturi felt the Realms Beyond calling to her after she had been freed from imprisonment within Threnody.
• In Making the Cut, part of the soul of Sasha King passed into the Realms Beyond, while another part of her remained within Abbey Preston and eventually merged with her.
