History

Religious Melting Pot/Battleground

Marigund was a country of contrasts due to start. Peace and love. Hate and violence. The nobility were mostly Rebuilders. The lower class was mostly Ecclesia. The middle class, including the merchants, were an even mix of just about everything else. There was even a large group group of Yehudim (More commonly called the Predecessor). Being neither Rebuilder, Follower nor Lightbringer makes them neutral in the religious strife. Many of the Kings own guard and advisers are Yehudim. Others act as neutral middlemen for the other religions.

With so many diverging faiths so close by, and faiths at odds with each other, at one point in time hardly a day passed without an Ecclesiast or a Rebuilder getting into a scuffle of some kind. It was never more than a few hotheads throwing stones or punches, though; not even they would tolerate it escalating any further than that. Marigund was their home and they would not see it torn apart by religious strife as much of the countryside to the South was. Still in spite of the seeming peace the tension was only pushed below the surface.

Religion became a matter to be practiced in one’s homes, and spoken of nowhere else. It was, in fact, a forbidden topic in the Court and in the Hall of the Mages' Guild. The first offense earned a flogging, the second a beheading. Those who would stir up a frenzy amongst the people were not tolerated; they are either thrown from the city, or executed publicly. Such harsh methods kept the peace for a long time.

Mage Guild

The Mages Guild of Marigund is one of the larger and more powerful organization of mages in the Midlands. Based solely in the province of of Mirador the guild dates back to the collapse of the Suielman Empire. It was formed by the handful of mages who managed to survive the empires collapse, and most of the early Marigund mages were tutored by the elves.

It is famous for not only it's size but it's vast library and it's highly esteemed school. There are other magic organizations that are larger. Many magic guilds (or whatever name they use) or schools restrict membership based on race, religion or social standing. However, this organization is unique in that it is open to all people.
