Cartesian Projection of MK2K-Earth

There are five major continents, oriented around the Central Sea. There is also an Antarctic continent, which is actually smaller than our Earth's Antarctica (though it doesn't look like it on this projection).
At this time, political boundaries are only shown for the continent of Galendor, which drives most of the major world events. More information will be forthcoming as this page is updated.
Note that, since it is mapping a spherical planet onto a rectangular surface, the Cartesian projection (called an Equidistant Cylindrical Projection) above distorts the size of regions near the poles. Refer to the following global projections to get a better sense of the actual size of the landmasses.

MK/RL Comparison Map

To give another measure of the relative sizes of landmasses in this world, here's a copy of the Cartesian map with a map of our Earth superimposed atop it (using the same type of projection):

Horizontal distances are the same when measured at the same parallel, or on the opposite parallel across the equator. Vertical distances between latitude lines are all equal (when using the gridlines on the MK map — the RL map uses a smaller grid with the same projection).

A few items of note:

  • Metamor Valley lies at approximately the same latitude as Great Britain, and — since it benefits from exposure to a large ocean on its western shore — likely has similar weather.
  • The most habitable regions of the Empire of Metamor are comparable in size to the most habitable portions of the United States, Canada and Mexico. If it were superimposed over Eurasia, this part of the Empire would stretch from Portugal in the west to Pakistan in the east, and from Scotland in the north to Yemen in the south.
  • The mana-dead "Holy Land" that comprises the westernmost portion of Ainador is vastly larger than RL Israel, encompassing an area roughly the size of Turkey. When the lands of the Desert of Dreaming are added to the tally, Ainador has direct control of an area roughly the size of the entire RL Middle East.
  • Whales is quite large for an island — roughly the size of Columbia or Borneo.
  • Yamato is slightly further north than RL Japan, and also a bit larger.
  • While the Central Sea is almost landlocked, it is extremely wide — roughly the same width as the distance from East Africa to Peru, if the Sea of Pyralis and the Sea of Yajiit are included as parts of the Central Sea.
  • The Death Mountains — home of Nasoj's fallen Citadel — are on the same latitude as Nunavut, Siberia, and central Sweden. They would probably be extremely cold, if not for the volcanic activity that regularly brings hot magma close to the surface. Of course, the mana nexus beneath the Citadel may have something to do with it, as well…

It cannot be verified by the Librarian at this time if this map matches the scale of the Cartesian Projection of the Earth found above. However, it does provide significant context for the providences and areas within the Metamor Empire and it's continental neighbors.
