History

The old border of Ainador was the Dreaming Desert, that started to the east of the Yurdon River quickly gives way to desert, and almost no villages were on the east side of the river. The northern reaches of Ainador are the most fertile, with farms and pastures spreading west to the sea. Further south, the interior of the land grows dry and ragged and is less hospitable to man and beast. Because of this, no major cities line the coast, as they are accessible only by sea. It is the river that is the true agricultural lifeblood of the land.

Ainador Today

It has mostly-friendly relations with Metamor and controls most of the Desert of Dreaming, which in the twentieth century CR came to be valued for its abundant oil reserves. These natural resources grant Ainador a level of power in world politics that belies its relatively small area of habitable land.

The capital, Yesulam, remains the home of the Ecclesia's headquarters. Officially, the church stays out of politics these days, but behind the scenes it still wields enormous influence. The population is about 95% human, at least according to official records — some non-humans living there may have simply disguised their natures, and are unable to change back to their native forms as long as they remain within the nation's borders. The population is about 80% Ecclesiast, with the remainder being a mixture of Meraists and various Rebuilder factions.

The three largest cities of Ainador are Yesulam, Abaef and Korazin.

Even with the general increase in the ambient magic of the world, the surface of western Ainador remains a mana-dead region. (The Desert of Dreaming is, as it always has been, a region of strong chaos magic, and the oil companies operating there take great precautions to avoid falling victim to its effects.) This makes Ainador the perfect hiding place for those beings who wish to avoid being scryed upon. It is, perhaps, unsurprising that the "Holy Land" has thus become a haven for the very unholy Nasoj cult known as the Brotherhood of the Sepulcher.

Ainador is bordered by the Empire of Metamor on the west and north, by the Sea of Yajiit on the south,2 and on the east by the naga-led nation of Rukilia and the mountainous nation of Vysehrad. Ainador engages in extensive trade with Rukilia, providing them with oil in exchange for wood, copper, gold, fruit, and textiles. While both nations benefit greatly from this relationship, however, they also butt heads frequently over a variety of minor political disputes. The dramatic difference in religious and cultural makeup between the two nations is probably the root of this conflict.
