Plane-Touched

org:planetouched

The plane-touched are beings who have a mixture of mortal and divine ancestry and essence. These people are the result of centuries of celestials and fiends mingling and mating with humans and other races. (Note: Incubi and succubae don't count as plane-touched, because their mortal essence is transformed into completely fiendish essence during the transition to adulthood.)

The term plane-touched refers to those individuals belonging to the second generation from a divine source and beyond, because when one of the ex-gods themselves mates with a mortal (or with a lesser outsider) the result is something much more powerful than a normal plane-touched. Since these individuals are born in the mortal world, they tend to be more human in form and mannerisms than the races of celestials and daedra that originated in the Nine Heavens and Hells; however, they are still immortal, and as such they are considered true celestials/daedra and not “mere” plane-touched mortals.

Appearance

Height Weight Body Type Skin Tone Eyes Distinguishing Physical Traits
variable variable variable variable variable variable, influenced by bloodline

Most plane-touched have at least some physical signs of their heritage, such as wings, claws, unusual eyes, small horns, etc. The more recent the divine parentage, these physical signs are more prominent (and numerous) in the plane-touched.

Subtypes

Asimaars

Plane-touched with some celestial blood are called asimaars.

Tieflings

Plane-touched with some fiendish blood are called tieflings. Note, many people will call tieflings “fiends” or “daedra,” further confusing the divisions between the different types of daedra.

Cansins

Cansins are a relatively rare type of plane-touched. Cansins carry a supernatural predisposition towards chaos, but are not particularly aligned with either good or evil. They is almost always the result of a mixture of celestial and fiendish ancestry (which is why they’re fairly rare among the plane-touched), and the two bloodlines partially cancel each other out and interact in odd ways.

Abilities

All plane-touched can learn to manifest some divine powers over time, in keeping with their divine essence and influenced by the bloodline(s) they carry. The close the divine parentage, the more “flavored,” powerful, and numerous their abilities will be.

  • Asimaars abilities include: light spells, minor healing, and minor “holy fire/light” damage spells.
  • Tiefling abilities include: darkness spells, minor curses and afflictions, and minor “unholy fire” damage spells.
  • Cansin abilities include: any ability available to asimaars and tieflings, luck manipulation, disruption/destruction (chaos based)

When it comes to divine-based wards/consecration, the blood of the plane-touched is diluted by mortality enough that these people can pass through divine barriers without any problems or ill-effects.

Typical Behaviors

While their divine blood does give them some inborn tendencies toward certain kinds of behavior, their upbringing is really far more important than their genetics in determining whether any particular Plane-touched person is good, neutral or evil. See Morality for more information.

Society

Most of the plane-touched have opted out of participation in the Great War, trying to live out their lives like normal mortals do. This desire has nothing to do with how much power they have, in fact some of the most powerful plane-touched aren’t even aware of their powers until an event triggers them.

Some, however, enthusiastically embrace their heritage, dedicating themselves to the Lightbringers or one of the various organizations and cults set up by former members of the Pantheon. Some deliberately choose a life contrary to their heritage to prove that it doesn't control them — there are several tieflings in the ranks of the Lothanasi (even though such agents often have difficulties working with holy weaponry). A few asimaar go rogue and use their powers for selfish or destructive purposes, forcing the Lightbringers to hunt them down and imprison or eliminate them.
