A meddley of viewpoints with no one exclusively in the right or wrong. Janus is quickly added to the list of interesting characters you've established in this universe.
<grin> Thanks! I was particularly amused by one comment from my friend Noblebear about Janus: "He's an asshole, but not a f-cking asshole."
1. That speech pattern "we" speech pattern on pathetic monster types is a bit cliche after Lord of the Rings. Just my opinion though. :)
Heh, guilty. I wanted to quickly establish a mental impression of what sort of creature Skarig was, and that speech pattern was the first thing that came to mind. At least I didn't make him refer to himself in third person. :)
2. Janus being in full combat regalia for something like this seemed off to me unless its something he likes to do at every possible opportunity. Unless of course he took control of this incident right after dealing with something much more serious.
<nods> Janus uses the combat uniform for intimidation purposes, particularly when he's hunting down suspects at night and doesn't need to blend in with the general populace. He suited up to go after Skarig because (1) he wanted to make very clear to the tokagi that its cooperation was not subject to negotiation, and (2) he wanted to warn off any other Street denizens from doing anything that might delay him. A man in a business suit might be targeted by any number of things living down there; by wearing the combat uniform, he clearly indicated to any onlookers that he was a fellow predator, not prey, and that they would do well to steer clear of him until his business was finished.
Thanks for the feedback!
