The Youth of a Starchild
Merai hin'Dana was born in 692 C.R., the daughter of Alexander and Dana, two scouts in the Metamor Army.
In May 706 she discovered that she had a gifting for channeling divine magic, and the high priestess of Metamor, Raven hin'Elric, inducted her into the Lothanasi. On July 20, 706 (the holiday for the Sacrifice of Yajiit), the goddess appeared and named the young initiate Elenin… a name which stretched back hundreds of years in prophecy.1
A Divine Mission
Early in the year 708 CR the god Kammoloth appeared to Merai and revealed to her that it was he, disguised to look like Alexander, who was her true father. He then appealed to her to help the gods in a grand deception that would bring about the downfall of the daedra lords and end much suffering in the world.
Merai had the ability to channel and transmute divine energies. She was granted a measure of the gods' own power, and then she was supposed use her gifts to steal the power of the daedra lords, then transmute it into a neutral form that could be given to the gods. In this way, the gods hoped to circumvent the ancient restrictions that their progenitors, the Elders, had placed upon them, which bound the deities to their respective spheres of influence and kept them from taking power from each other.
The Starchild's Justice for All
To the surprise of all present, however, Merai did not do as the Aedra had bidden, for she had received alternate instructions from Iluvatar/Eli/The Creator in a vision.2 After siphoning off the power of the Daedra Lords and trapping them in corporeal form, she betrayed the Aedra and did the same thing to them.
With this act, Merai Starchild caused the Great Fall, bringing the conflict between the gods into the mortal realm. Merai also limited the scope of the Great War by shutting off the gods' access to the Heavens and Hells and limiting access to the Dreamlands, where she had cast their innumerable progeny.
