Holy Day

Dokor'kema March 12th. Soldiers honored the God of War by offering sacrifices taken from the spoils of battles that they have fought and won honorably during the past year. Armorers and weaponsmiths brought their finest work to be laid upon the altar and blessed by Dokorath for use in combat. Justicars and other disciples renewed their vows of service, often taking on tattoos, brands or ritual scars that show their devotion; these markings were always administered by one of their fellow disciples, usually an elder who is in a position of authority over the one receiving the mark.

History: Necromancer to War God

A Young Necromancer

In his youth, Rickkter was a member of the Necromancer clan known as the Seekers of Zohar. He served as a support mage and healer's assistant as the Seekers sought out long-lost knowledge and tried to protect the world from monstrous threats that invaded the world from the outer planes (and beyond). During this time he fell in love with the group's primary healer, a woman named Deanna, and they were together for several years.

The Seekers of Zohar were annihilated in a botched mission to the Wastelands of Kilyarnie on the Fifth Hell. What they had believed would be an ancient vault full of long-lost magical knowledge turned out to be a prison for one of the Titans. Before the Pantheon and three of the Elders arrived to contain the creature, Deanna's soul had been sent to Oblivion and the rest of the Seekers had been pulled screaming into the Ninth Hell. Rickkter alone was spared, and was fitted with a Keeper2 so that his behavior could be monitored by the Pantheon. Rickkter was not told what purpose led the gods to spare his life and his soul, but the Keeper made it clear that they had plans for him that they would call into motion years later.3

Rickkter keeps a violin that was given to him by Deanna. She had taught him to play and as such this is one of his most valued treasures.

The Fall of Fellos

While living in Sonngefilde, Rickkter was both a Kankoran and a member of the secretive Order of the Ebon Dragon.

While a member of the Order of the Ebon Dragon, he participated in the assault that destroyed Fellos (the city-home-library of the Felikaush order). In that raid, he obtained a journal written by Anef the First, Speaker of the Nine Who Fell4, and Rickkter has kept that journal magically preserved to the current day.

Joining the Keep

Soon after the destruction of Fellos in 690CR, Rickkter traveled to Galendor and became an integral part of Metamor Keep. He was influential in the events of the Day of the Starchild.

During his earlier days of at the Keep, he met a member of a rival mage-clan from Sondeshara, Charles Matthais]]. At some point in time, Charles kept a Sondeshike that belonged to Rickkter. This led to no small amount of friction, but Charles eventually returned the Sondeshike after the Winter Assault on Metamor Keep, which led to a cooling of their rivalry. Having once lost it, Rickkter keeps a close eye on the Sondeshike and it is considered to be one of his most prized possessions (along with the violin and the journal of Anef the First).

A New God After the Fall

Rickkter inherited the position of the God of War and Honor from Dokorath. Having joined the people of Metamor in the struggle against Talia during the 710s, Dokorath. was severely wounded in the final battle with the new Vampire Queen. Not wanting his power to pass to one of Metamor's enemies, he asked Rickkter to deliver the killing blow. The battlemage complied, and went on to use the power to help Raven defeat Talia and forcibly restore her sanity (with the help of Talia's sister, Raven, and the God of Wisdom, Samekkh).

Note- Like Talia, Rickkter has a very different take and scope on being a god as opposed to original members of the Pantheon. While not trained to be the leader Talia was, he did have considerable training, talent, and experience before he absorbed the power of Dokorath (and a post Great Fall level of god at that).

Capture and Torture

Rickkter went through a particularly bad experience a couple of centuries back: In 1795, after a long and particularly draining battle with the then-current holder of the Revonos power, he was betrayed by a group of powerful mages who had fought alongside him in the battle. Striking quickly while the avatar was already battered and weary, they were able to incapacitate and immobilize him. Rick awoke trapped in a cave of some sort, within a mystical prison — one powerful enough that he was unable to break through in his weakened state. The mages who betrayed him stood by and watched, garbed in black, their faces cloaked, their minds unreadable. And there was Something Else in there with him…

Rick's captor was none other than the spirit of Nasoj, but the Dark Wizard had by that time been so transformed by the power of the adjacent Nexus that Rick was unable to recognize his aura. Neither Nasoj nor his servants ever revealed their identity or purpose to him, but for 70 years they kept him in daily torment as they performed one ritual after another in a vain attempt to transfer Nasoj's essence into Rick's body. Generations of mages came and went, trying new variants on old spells and occasionally something completely different. Rickkter's will was too strong for them to succeed, though, his power too great even in weakness. Eventually they realized that it was hopeless, and they abandoned him there, leaving him with only Nasoj's ghost for company. The Wizard made sure that Rickkter never grew strong enough to escape.

Rescue from the Nasoj's Sepulcher

Three years after he was abandoned by the cultists, in 1868, Rick was found by Murikeer in the depths of the Sepulcher, beneath the ruins of Nasoj's citadel. It is unknown how Muri was able to break the walls of the prison and extract Rickkter without being captured himself, but the long-standing mystical connection between Muri and Nasoj probably has a lot to do with it. Muri brought the unconscious Rickkter back to Kyia's Citadel, where he soon revived under the care of the Majestrix. Murikeer has never told Rickkter, or anyone else, where he found him, for fear that Rick would try to obliterate the Sepulcher, possibly killing Muri and/or releasing Nasoj in the process. Rick treated Muri with deep anger and distrust after that, even vowing to kill the skunk if he ever saw him again — he knew Muri had deep feelings for Kayla, Rick's wife, and suspected that Muri had ulterior motives for letting him stay locked up for so long. In the end, though, he restrained himself at Kayla's request, and in the last sixty years he and Muri have finally come to a truce.

Current Activities

Being a god hasn't changed Rickkter all that much — he has lived out a mostly happy life with Kayla, to whom Kyia gave just enough of her own power to ensure that she never ages. Rick and Kayla withdrew from public life until 1001, when Kyia asked him to become the head of the Metamor Army. Today he serves as the Empire's Minister of Defense.

Artifacts Owned by Rickkter

As mentioned above, Rickkter's most prized possessions are his Sondeshike, the journal of Anef the First, and his violin. He also owns a katana-like sword that is one of his favored weapons.

Two blades that were known to be held by Rickkter were runic weapons: one is the dagger Tchaas-hurti, one of the Five Sisters, a set of five runic weapons. The name of the other blade is not known.

He also owned a pair of daggers known as Marshak's Teeth. These are armor piercing weapons that were held by the Lothanasi until they were stolen by Callie Linder. The Lightbringers may be more upset by this than Rickkter. Janus Starson states that they are "the best armor piercing blades known to man and priceless artifacts." They can punch through 6 inches of armor plating. Callie states that the theft was for a good cause. Her employer (and theoretically the current owner of the daggers), is unknown.
