Rafak Aliri

Full Name: Rafak Aliri
Species: Lutin
Allegiance: Personal, Metamor
Religion: Agnostic
Social Status: 2

Age: 35 as of 3/12/1999
Eyes: Dark Brown
Hair: Black (combed back, receding, widow's peak, neck length)
Height: 152.4 cm (5'0")

Physical Notes: Clean-shaven. Exceptionally clean and neat for a Street lutin; he also wears better clothes than most Street Rats (most have to be tailored to fit his frame and atypical choices for a lutin). Physically fit.

Behavioral Notes: Accommodating toward customers; plain-spoken toward friends and acquaintances; flat and flippant toward the uncooperative/hostile. Takes things as they come; picks himself up, dusts himself off kind of attitude. He is afraid of heights.

Supernatural Abilities: Very meager magical potential, undeveloped beyond basic magesight (which gives him a headache if he uses it).

Personality & Appearance

Rafak Aliri is smarter than the average lutin, though not as quick as the smarter ranks of humanity. He relies more on a keen sense of intuition, years of experience on the Street, and plain footwork. Whereas many choose the path of the street thug or runner, he chooses to label himself a "Private Eye". The idea is still somewhat marginal on the Street but he remains convinced that there is a market for work that is slightly more above-board than the average thug or runner's, yet not quite the right fit for the MCPD or other organizations.

Rafak is a typical lutin, physically. Long of arm, short of stature, and thick of bone. His skin tone is a medium green devoid of patterning. His black hair is kept brushed backward from front to back and forms a widow's peak in the front. Rafak will typically be seen wearing a trench coat and a fedora straight out of the movies. He considers them to be both functional and a form of free advertising. Beneath the coat he usually wears a vest, tie, and a large-caliber hand gun.

Background

Rafak grew up in a farming community in the Northern Midlands. He had some very meager magical potential, but decided against following the path toward becoming a third-rate shaman. When he came of age and it was time to make his way in the world he traveled to Metamor City and worked a series of below-minimum wage jobs on the Street until one day he caught a do-it-yourself business seminar. After that he scrapped and saved till he had enough money to try his hand at self-employment, eventually getting a private investigator's license (taking any needed courses beforehand) and opening an office on the Street.

Rafak is giving the entrepreneurial an honest try, reading up on business practices, listening to seminar tapes and the like. He also is very honest and legal when it comes to his operation. This has led to attempts that might seem out of place in his Street environment, such as potted plants in the reception area of his office, wearing nicer clothes, and a professional, accommodating attitude towards customers. Rafak considers himself a businessman as much as he does a detective and someday plans to beat the odds with regards to social mobility. He is off to a decent start, as he is one of the more successful people on his block in that he is actually able to pay all of his bills on a regular basis.

Due to his sense of honor and honesty, he does resent the initial impression that he would be involved in illegal activities. He will also give a person who has that impression a chance to be corrected:

Detective Kitaen, I'm a licensed private investigator, not a runner. I don't burgle, I don't smuggle, and I don't rob. So no: if Baddings was a fence, I never had a reason to work with him. And I sort of resent the insinuation that, because I'm a Street Rat, I must be a criminal.
