Lilith (LÍL-əþ)

Full Name: Lilith
Species: DECEASED (Daedra)
Allegiance: n/a
Religion: n/a
Social Status: n/a

Age: DECEASED
Eyes: dark
Hair: long, black
Height: n/a

Physical Notes: Lilith appeared darkly beautiful woman, with long black hair and dark eyes. Her skin was alternately tanned like Artela's or pale like her vampire children, a change that depended on her mood. She generally dressed in a black jerkin, tunic, leggings and boots, though she was known to wear elegant, flowing gowns of black silk when for more formal ceremonies.

Behavioral Notes: The Vampire Queen's personality was, appropriately, rather vampish. She kept a steady hold on her emotions most of the time, and rarely showed anything more than dry amusement or quiet irritation. She was sensual and seductive — not overtly sexual and lascivious like Suspira, but displayed tremendous self-confidence and a certain knowledge of her body's appeal.

On those rare occasions when Lilith was provoked to rage, it was a terrible sight to behold: her fingernails became long talons, her eyes became a feral yellow rimmed with black, her body grew tall and muscular, her skin became a thick and leathery hide, and her jaws elongated and filled up with a nightmarish array of teeth. She hated when this happens, since it meant both losing her beauty and control of the predator inside her; anyone who saw her like this, even her own trusted servants, were generally be killed so that they should not report what they had seen to anyone else.

Supernatural Abilities: n/a. Lilith's aura was similar to Artela's, but carried a more dangerous scent reminiscent of wolves and other predators.

Background

Lilith was one of the two nature goddesses in the Pantheon. Neither she nor her sister Artela completely encompassed the character and spirit of the natural world, but each existed as a mirror image of the other: while Artela represented nature in its mutualistic aspect, in which creatures form partnerships that help each other to survive and prosper, Lilith embodied the predatory and competitive aspects of nature. Lilith's domain was the world of nature "red in tooth and claw," in which the weak are killed and eaten or simply starved out of existence, while the strong prosper and pass on their traits to the next generation.

Lilith was also the creator of the first vampires, whom she conceived to be the ultimate hunter that would help to keep the Elves and humans strong and fit, for they had become clever enough that few predators could effectively cull the weak from among them. It was said that her kiss alone would make one a vampire.

It is also believed that she also created the first werecreatures, turning ordinary mortals into beings that could change into powerful beasts when the conditions were right. Because of this, Lilith is also known as the patroness of lycanthropes (only those who give in to their dark, predatory nature). She also was the patroness of draconians (evil black dragons), and the undead.

Lilith's focus on predation and competition did not mean that she ignored the benefits of cooperation, however. While Lilith did not feel the same sense of joy and wonder in mutualism that Artela felt, she recognized that mutualism is a part of life and that even carnivores must protect their vulnerable pups and work together to take down prey that are larger than themselves. Lilith instilled strong lawful instincts in her vampires for that very reason, and gave them an inborn sense of duty to their sires and bloodlines so that their predatory instincts will not drive them into self-destruction. Nor is it a coincidence that the best-known lycanthropes are werewolves: Lilith had a particular admiration for lupine society, and chose the wolf as the ideal animal to blend with humans in creating her new super-predator.

The woodlands that Lilith haunted, the Elderwood, Forest of Darkness(the heart of Lilith's empire]]], and The Murk are sinister places, filled with ancient gnarled trees, giant spiders and centipedes, predators who have succumbed to the lust for human flesh, and other nasty creatures. Her forests always emanated from a magical nexus, hidden at their very center … "A domain of evil it is," and few have survived an encounter with such a nexus. Lilith extracted a measure of the life-force of each creature within her sphere of influence; the longer one remained within the radius of the nexus' effect, the more dedicated one became to Lilith's service.

In addition, Lilith and Suspira had a rivalry between them while Lilith lived. Before the Great Fall, Suspira held sway over her fellow daedra as their queen to Ba'al's leadership. Lilith felt that she deserved the position.

Holy Day

Due to the influence of the Lightbringer Order the daedra lords were considered the "bad gods" or devils. As such, the Daedra Lords did not have individual holy days, but were all combined into one night, Daedra'kema (similar to the real world’s Halloween & Walpurgisnacht, with *much* sharper teeth and claws).1

Lilith's fate

Lilith is dead; she was overthrown in the early 700s by Talia, a renegade Lightbringer priestess, shortly after the Great Fall. Talia was able to kill Lilith after she stole one of Lilith's own artifacts.2

The attack was motivated by revenge: Lilith had imprisoned Talia and her mother and brother in soul gems during the Battle of Three Gates, where they remained trapped for years. Talia's soul was restored to her body by her sister, Karenna hin'Elric, and the Necromancer Rickkter, shortly after the Great Fall. Unfortunately, Talia was insane, and decided to pursue Lilith for revenge… never realizing that she could actually kill the daedra lord or that the death would result in her becoming the Vampire Queen.

Since the death occurred after the Great Fall, it is unknown what happened to Lilith's spirit. There is some speculation among some scholars as to what happened to her soul, but as no one can go to the Hells to see if her spirit is there. Locked away in a vault some forgotten vault of the Lothanasi may be some additional speculations, but if so they aren't aware of it's existence.3
