Background
Guerra is the name given to a black dragon that has terrorized the Imperial Air Force since its shortly after its inception following the Empire's war with the Republic of Telvar in the 1890s. It means "War" in a dialect of the ancient Suielman Empire, and the drake has adopted it with some measure of satisfaction.
His left eye was lost in an unknown incident prior to his harassment of the IAF. The socket was empty for decades until the advent of spelltech prosthetic eyes. A hellish red orb now sits in a silver plate covering the ruined portion of his face. Given the fact that modern versions of the device come in a wide variety of colors and even cosmetic versions, no one believes the choice was anything but deliberate.
A History of Harassment
His MO is to appear on the first patrol of any IAF pilots after they have finished their training. Despite the fact that Guerra has never killed a pilot, the experience is nerve-rattling to say the least. Some pilots never get into an aerofighter again.
There is rampant speculation among pilots as to Guerra's origins and his relationship to the IAF. It has not even been confirmed whether or not he is a true dragon, a dracomorph, a shape-shifting mage, or something else entirely.
The Official Word
When diplomats approached the Dragon Federation after Guerra's first appearance, the insular nation replied with equivalent of a disinterested shrug, and so long as the injuries and damage remain minor, the government of Metamor has followed suit leaving the lower ranks of the Air Force to fend for themselves (with the notable exception of an ill-fated operation in the 1950s whose operational title was the first to feature four-letter expletives).
Theories
Conspiracy theories go hand and hand with talk about Guerra, with many theorizing that he is actually government-employed to help cull the weak from service before they find themselves in actual combat. Those stopping short of that believe he has at least some contact within the organization, given his uncanny knowledge of when to strike.
Known Allies
- unknown
Known Enemies
- The closest is the Imperial Air Force, but that's also because he terrorizes them.
