Since the dawn of creation, the living fortress of Metamor Keep stood guard over the world of humanity. Inhabited by a benevolent spirit of godlike power, poised in a valley that divided the civilized south from the lawless north, Metamor Keep was a beacon of hope and a refuge for the weary. A dark Wizard bent on conquest sought to destroy the Keep and its people, blanketing the valley with a Curse that twisted changed their bodies according to its own cruel whims, but even this could not break the spirit of the Metamoran people: the Wizard was defeated, his body slain, his own fortress toppled.
Thirteen hundred years later, Metamor Keep has changed: what was once a single castle has become a metropolis of unimaginable size, a towering city where metal and magic support buildings half a mile high. What was once a small northern kingdom has become an empire that spans half a continent. The immortal spirit of Metamor, Majestrix Kyia, rules over 300 million subjects with fairness and equanimity, winning the hearts of the people.
Most of them, that is.
There are those on the outskirts who yearn for the days of chaos — servants of the forces that have lain dormant in the world since the fall of the dark Wizard and the dawn of Pax Metamoria. Congregating in shadow, huddled beneath the towering skyscrapers of Metamor City, the forces of darkness plot the downfall of the Empire and the ushering in of a new age.
On January 1st, 2000 CR, they will make their first strike.

I want to capture the essence of the setting in a description short enough that it will fit on a back cover, or on the jacket flaps of a hardcover book. I think it's important to acknowledge MK2K's heritage while also stressing the fact that this is an urban fantasy, not another sword-and-sorcery epic.
